What’s the role?
As the Software Engineer II, you will be responsible for work within guidelines set by your teammates to independently tackle well-scoped problems. You regularly deliver your work to end users and are a primary contributor to your team's goals. You work on features and projects within a broader product or system.
The CRM Experiences team plays a critical role in enabling buyer- and seller-facing communication. Collaborating closely with the machine learning team, we enhance personalization across diverse channels like emails, push notifications, and more. Our work involves creating robust data pipelines to ensure accurate information flow, as well as developing monitoring tools and dashboards to maintain the health of the entire CRM system. This is a full-time position reporting to the CRM Experiences Engineering Manager. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Mexico City office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What’s this team like at Etsy?
This team works collaboratively to tackle well-scoped problems, and to regularly deliver work to end users.
Working cross-functionally with platform teams, ML teams and product partners to build the next generation of data discovery platforms in the cloud.
Developing and maintaining critical path product services.
Contribute at all levels of Etsy’s search and recommendations stacks, ranging from application back-end technologies (Scala, Java, Python) as well as machine learning stack (Spark, Scalding, Airflow).
What does the day-to-day look like?
Collaborate closely with Engineers, Product Managers, and Designers to develop solutions to help sellers better run their businesses and remain competitive.
Develop software with an eye on quality, using performance monitoring tooling, automated and manual testing, and observability tools to verify the correctness and quality of your code.
Contribute at all levels of our web application stack, ranging from front-end web interfaces to back-end technologies. We use PHP, MySQL, Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, but it's okay if you don't have experience with all of these!

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
3+ years of practical software development experience.
Strong experience in PHP.
Experience writing understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability.
Experience running A/B tests.
Enjoy thinking about the implications of your work on end users. You are comfortable collaborating with Product Managers and Designers to ensure that you’re delivering impactful product features.
Have excellent communication skills, and are enthusiastic and forward-looking!
