We are looking for a Data Scientist, Content Controls and Detection focused on identifying and mitigating potential risks on the platform. If you are passionate about recognizing patterns, generating insights, and moving toward solutions for risk prevention, this is a great opportunity for you.
As a Data Scientist, Content Controls and Detection, you will proactively identify marketplace risks and help remediate them by optimizing our controls program. This is a full-time position reporting to the Manager, Trust and Safety Content Analytics. This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Mexico City Office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. The Trust & Safety Analytics team partners closely with leads across Trust & Safety and Product & Engineering to craft policy, ensure business goals are met or exceeded, and manage the rapidly changing environment of platform risks.
More broadly, the Analytics team at Etsy helps drive the success of our partners by providing meaningful insights, industry-leading measurement techniques, and access to the metrics, data, and tools needed for decision-making and optimization. We partner with our peers through all stages of development: identifying initial opportunities, analyzing the impact of our efforts, and highlighting improvement areas. Ultimately, the team’s work strengthens Etsy and helps continuously improve the Etsy experience.
What does the day-to-day look like?
You will assess, define, and measure the success of controls and detections in partnership with Operations teams.
You will design new controls in response to emerging risks, partnering with partner teams to develop and/or launch new controls.
You will find opportunities for automation and control/signal improvement.
You will conduct investigative analysis to identify new abuse trends.
You will maintain and refine processes to review, validate, and provide estimated precision rates for proposed controls and machine learning models, collaborating with Operations, Product Engineering, and Trust & Safety.
You will collaborate with leadership, program management, and Product Engineering around control-tuning needs based on emerging trends.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
Proven success working on Analytics or Data Science teams in e-commerce or another internet-based industry.
2+ years of Trust & Safety or risk prevention experience.
Experience with large datasets, sophisticated analytical techniques, and using data to influence business decisions.
High proficiency with SQL, Python, as well as statistical metrics such as precision, recall, and false positive rates.
An ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment, easily adapting to new platform risks and using data-driven insights to guide decisions in ambiguous situations.
Fluency in both English and Spanish.
