What’s the role?
As a Senior Software Engineer II, you will be responsible for taking the lead on directing and implementing solutions to moderately complex, loosely scoped problems that are aligned with your team's goals. Your work extends to many parts of a product or system. You deliver projects independently or by leading your teammates to do so. You enable other engineers on your team to be successful.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager, LTVT. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

LTVT is a true product team made up of 5 web engineers, 1 PM, and 1 Designer who are fun, curious, collaborative and passionate leaders - if that resonates with you, please join us!
You will work directly with Design, Product, and Engineering across product and enablement teams. Your work will have a multiplier effect, spanning nearly every page across Etsy.com as well as every piece of the customer journey. We are currently working on creating and recommending the right web to app prompt to our Buyers to help direct and influence them to download the Buy on Etsy app
Our team is currently distributed across the US and Mexico
What does the day-to-day look like?
Developing and maintaining critical path product services.
Build sophisticated solutions to help our buyers discover items from Etsy’s outstanding and diverse listings inventory for their personalized shopping missions.
Prototype, optimize, and productionize large-scale product improvements that deliver key results.
Run A/B experiments to validate product improvements.
Collaborate with product managers, product designers, analysts, researchers, and other full-stack engineers to deliver optimal content to tens of millions of users.
Mentor and coach other engineers on your team and across the company to help them succeed.
Demonstrate leadership on every project, whether as a tech-lead or a contributor.
Regularly ship performant PHP, JavaScript, and TypeScript using our continuous delivery pipeline.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
5+ years of practical software development experience.
Flexibility with different programming languages and cloud-native environments, with experience in at least one of the following: PHP, Python, Go, Ruby, Java, C++, or JavaScript.
A track record operating within a large codebase and working to create simplicity from complex systems.
Experience in information retrieval systems and ability to write high performance production quality code.
Experience writing understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability. Your technical planning has shown to reduce failure scenarios and identify edge cases early on.
An analytical approach to understand how to wield data to make informed decisions about your work
Experience working within a large codebase, where you strive to create simplicity from complex systems. You understand the fundamentals of building robust services and consistently leave things in better shape than you found them
Enthusiasm for thinking about the implications of your work on end users. You should be comfortable collaborating and partnering as a unit with Product Managers, Data Analysts, and Designers to ensure that you’re delivering impactful product features
Strong communication skills and are willing to take on a mentoring role with teammates and peers
Experience working within a large codebase, where you strive to create simplicity from complex systems. You understand the fundamentals of building robust services and consistently leave things in better shape than you found them.
