Salary Range:
$204,000.00 - $240,000.00Etsy is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Seller Onboarding Engineering team. You will be joining a team of software engineers, building features and systems to enable new sellers to start selling on Etsy, reaching millions of buyers globally.
The technology we build spans the full stack end to end; from user experience, to API design, backend service development, vendor integrations, and database design. Depending on the needs of the business, our team may need to move up and down the stack, and in many cases collaborate with other teams to get to what needs to be done.
As a Staff Engineer, you'll drive the technical direction and strategy of the team, work closely with engineering managers, senior engineers and multi-functional partners to design and deliver large scale technical solutions. You will ensure a high level of quality by leading by example, setting solid engineering standards and mentoring engineers.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager, Seller Onboarding. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice

The Seller Onboarding team is streamlining and modernizing the way people open a new Etsy shop! Our vision is to transform seller onboarding into a platform that guides sellers through setting up a complete shop within a delightful, customized experience that introduces them to Shop Manager and the Etsy Seller App.
The team includes members of product, engineering, marketing, and operations, and works collaboratively across all teams at Etsy.
As the engineering arm of this effort, we work on building relevant user interfaces, backend systems, data, and relevant standalone services.
Contribute at all levels; from front-end (HTML, CSS, JS, and Typescript/React), to API design and back-end (PHP, MySQL, BigQuery), and standalone supporting services running in containers.
Architecting solutions to significantly complex, un-scoped problems. Systems design is a primary responsibility of this role.
Set technical direction for your teammates, as a tech lead.
Work multi-functionally with various teams for technical alignment and dependency management, and to make sure we are building the right product for the right set of customers.
Participate in code and design reviews and maintain high standards of code quality
Mentor and guide junior and senior engineers.

You are motivated by the potential of enabling sellers around the world. You demonstrate empathy for the needs and pain points of our international buyers and sellers, translating them into innovative and user-friendly solutions.
10+ years of professional software development experience, including technical leadership, ideally in a product-minded environment.
You have built backend systems serving millions of customers. High availability, security, maintainability are second nature in your design.
You mentor other engineers through pairing, delegation and sponsorship.
You take pride in how well you document technical design, and bring others along
You have a knack for organization and breaking down large problems into smaller ones.
You collaborate well with partner functions to validate your work.
You are willing to work with and improve on code you did not originally write.
You are a mindful, transparent, and communicative member of your team.
