What’s the role?
We are looking for a Backed Engineer to join a multidisciplinary app development team, where you will work alongside native engineers to build exciting features for our app users on the Listing screen. On our team, backend engineers build the Application Programming Interface (API) endpoints used by our native apps.
You will collaborate with a dedicated team of engineers, designers, product managers, analysts, and researchers who work together to build engaging and delightful user experiences for Etsy’s native applications.
Alongside delivering product features, our engineers also have opportunities to propose and lead projects that invest in improved performance, developer experience, or fixing tech debt.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

What does the day-to-day look like?
Collaborate across Product, Design, Analysts, Researchers, and Engineering to build innovative and delightful mobile experiences
Build high-quality end to end product features in a fast paced agile environment
Collaborate with other backend engineers on other teams to improve the Etsy API architecture.
Accurately estimate timelines for strategic delivery of work
Run A/B experiments to validate product improvements
Confidently communicate technical issues with all vital stakeholders. This includes quickly owning and addressing critical issues which your team owns, even if there is no clear individual owner
Craft and improve processes that positively impact your team
Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change occasionally at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
An interest in solving user problems and driving business impact through high-quality, maintainable, and readable code
At least 2+ years of professional backend of full-stack development experience, ideally in a product-minded environment.
Self-motivation in tackling projects, and you estimate accurate timelines for tasks to deliver work at a steady, predictable pace to hit deadlines.
Love to, and are able to, learn new systems and technologies.
Proficiency in designing and building APIs with any programming language. Experience working with PHP is preferred, but not required.
Understand the ins and outs of crafting an API to be consumed by multiple platforms
Experience working with product managers, designers, and nontechnical partners to provide them with estimates, and scoping large bodies of work.
Ability to lead and break down complex problems into bite sized solutions.
A sense of self-direction, and ability to pathfind and learn quickly
