$265,000.00 - $345,000.00What’s the role?
As a Senior Director of Product Design you’ll play a critical role in helping Etsy showcase our seller’s unique items by leading design, strategy, and vision across the Inventory design organization. You’ll be responsible for tackling one of Etsy’s evergreen problems: how to optimize our customers’ interaction with Etsy’s impressive catalog of 120M+ unique items. You’ll lead teams to help buyers make confident purchasing decisions, give sellers flexibility to better describe their items, and shape experiences in key categories to drive discovery.
The ideal candidate knows how to balance high craft and speed, is a passionate advocate for customer-centered design, is not afraid to dig into the metrics, is a skilled mentor who fosters a culture of creativity and experimentation. You'll work cross-functionally with product, engineering, research, and analytics to define overall organization strategy and inspire the team.
This is a full-time position reporting to the VP of Design. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Our Inventory team is making a multi-year investment in the ways our buyers and sellers interact with our unique items on Etsy, with a focus on foundational systems that describe our items, improving the quality of listings, and delivering best-in-class buying experiences for our flagship categories. We work across the entire user journey, partnering with Marketing, Merchandising, Search, and Discovery to develop holistic approaches to better showcase our items. We’re elevating the best of Etsy, leaning into what makes our marketplace special, and raising the bar on the items we show our customers.
What does the day-to-day look like?
Strategic Leadership: Develop and drive the overall product design vision for the inventory organization, aligning it with business goals and user needs.
Team Development: Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing design team, fostering a culture of creativity, design excellence, and impact.
Design Excellence: Coach managers and team members to continually improve their craft and deliver an exceptional experience.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product, engineering, analytics, user research teams to lead the organization’s strategy, delivery and health. Collaborate with brand and marketing to enhance the buyer experiences.
Customer Insights: Leverage qualitative and quantitative research to inform design decisions and continuously improve product experiences.
Metrics-Driven: Use design to drive critical business metrics and KPIs

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
15+ years of experience in product design, with a strong portfolio showcasing cross-platform consumer products .
7+ years of experience in a leadership role, managing and mentoring design managers.
Proven track record of driving measurable outcomes through design.
Expertise in growth strategies such engagement, retention, funnel optimization, and onboarding flows.
Strong understanding of design fundamentals, systems design, usability principles, and interaction design.
Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to advocate for design at all levels of the organization.
Comfortable working in fast-paced, dynamic environments, balancing strategic priorities with hands-on design needs.
