Etsy's focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion encourages an environment in which employees feel empowered to come, stay, and thrive.
We hold ourselves accountable to providing all of our employees equitable access to quality jobs, great pay, industry-leading benefits, and the tools to grow their careers.
Diversity, equity and inclusion are core to Etsy’s culture. We’re committed to building a workplace where all people, regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status, can come, stay and thrive. We know that diverse and inclusive teams build more creative and innovative solutions that strengthen our business and reinforce our values.
Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion extends to our work on the Etsy marketplace. We develop unique ways for buyers to help discover the works of incredible sellers from underrepresented communities.
One example of this is Etsy’s Uplift Initiative, a diverse set of programs focused on supporting creative entrepreneurs facing challenges such as lack of access to an internet connection or limited digital skills and capital to grow their businesses.
In 2018 we set a goal to double the percentage of employees who identify as Black, Latinx or Native American in our U.S. workforce by end of 2023. We’re also actively developing firm goals toward our commitment to gender diversity and accessibility in Engineering and at a global scale. Learn more about goals and progress to date in our 2022 Annual Report.

Our teams use a skills-based hiring rubric that maps back to Etsy’s competencies. Interview questions and order remain consistent for every candidate, thereby ensuring fairness and allowing each candidate equal opportunity to relay capabilities.
Our Mansfield Rule aims to increase representation of the groups most underrepresented within our employee base by ensuring that candidates from specific groups are considered for each open Etsy role.
All members of Etsy hiring panels participate in an interview training program that provides them with actionable strategies that seek to mitigate bias. The panels themselves are selected to include diversity of thought, experience, and background.
To be inclusive, we know that our word choices need to be specific. We're continually adapting our collective vocabulary in order to increase our knowledge, our sensitivity, and our level of comfort when discussing matters of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
This six-month program pairs entry and mid-level employees from underrepresented racial/ethnic communities with senior leaders. Mentors provide mentees with targeted coaching, exploration of career aspirations and support for potential growth opportunities.
The goal of these internal workshops is to advance diversity, equity, inclusion awareness and recognize the role inclusion plays in our shared success, understand unconscious bias and how to mitigate it, and apply best practices for inclusive behavior every day.
