What’s the role?
Etsy is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to join our International Engineering team. You will be helping to lead a business-critical team of software engineers, building features and systems to enable our international sellers to reach millions of buyers globally. The technology we build spans vertically and horizontally, from user experience in the web and native apps, to API design, backend service development, vendor integrations, and database design.
As part of this role, you will be partnering with various key functions across the company, such as Product Management, Analytics, and Research to shape the short and long term strategy for your team. In addition to the high quality work your team will deliver, you will also manage upstream and downstream dependencies across the company. Cross collaboration and working with your stakeholders to do the right thing for our marketplace, and for our international buyers and sellers specifically, will be critical to your and your team’s success.
We are looking for someone who has a passion for the Etsy marketplace, understands how to lead and grow engineering teams that work on complex and high traffic systems, and is comfortable with managing your team’s workload in response to dynamic business needs.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Director, Engineering. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Dublin office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What does the day-to-day look like?
You will be responsible for cultivating the career development for a diverse and talented team of engineers.
You will take an active role in driving the technical and strategic direction of the platform - engaging engineers, peers, and product in the process.
You will be collaborating with the team and stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of critical projects.
You will be tackling the day to day support and triage of key systems in the platform.
You will drive several in-flight projects in your team, maintain a roadmap with a 12-month outlook, and keep your stakeholders up to date with your team's workload.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
You have 5+ years of technical team management experience.
You are comfortable managing 6 to 8 engineers, working on multiple projects, in collaboration with different teams in the engineering organization.
You are motivated by the potential of enabling sellers around the world. You demonstrate empathy for the needs and pain points of our international buyers and sellers, translating them into innovative and user-friendly solutions.
You have experience in building/managing full stack features, from frontend design, to backend services.
You are engaged in technical decisions and discussions, but you know when to defer to technical leaders in the company.
You collaborate well with partner functions, such as Product Management, Analytics, and Research to shape your team’s roadmap.
You are comfortable managing upstream and downstream dependencies with other teams.
You have a clear understanding of the direction your team needs to take to achieve their goals and see how, through multiple projects, you will get your team there.
