As a Senior Engineer on Search Discovery + BOE, you will play a major role in improving the shopping experience for millions of Etsy buyers. We are looking for someone who is product and delivery driven, and passionate about crafting innovative products at scale. This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Mexico City office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. • Build sophisticated solutions to help our buyers discover items from Etsy’s outstanding and diverse listings inventory for their personalized shopping missions.

• Prototype, optimize, and productionize large-scale product improvements that deliver key results.

• Run A/B experiments to validate product improvements.

• Collaborate with product managers, product designers, analysts, researchers, and other engineers to deliver optimal content to tens of millions of users.

• Assist with technical discovery and communicate findings and recommendations to your team members.

• Participate in code reviews and project planning discussions.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• 3 to 5 years of professional iOS development experience, ideally in a product-minded environment.

• You’re strongly proficient in Swift, but don’t shy away from dipping to Objective-C code when you need to.

• Framework-oriented engineering mindset (or, at the very least, a desire to learn it). The work you’ll do here will impact multiple teams across domains; hence, it is essential for you to be able to build APIs with the right level of abstraction for any given solution.

• You’re an expert debugger, know how to correctly leverage LLDB, and follow the best debugging practices.

• Collaborating with cross-functional team members, such as Product Managers, Designers, QA, and product engineers is natural to you.

• Proficiency with version control tools (our tooling and processes are based on git and GitHub).

• Product development experience with the ability to write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability.

• You care about web performance.

• Ability to define and solve unconstrained problems, and know when to seek help when no progress is being made.

• Desire to learn new systems and technologies.

• Interest in monitoring the health and performance of the applications your team owns.

• You can communicate with your team in a transparent and effective way.

• Thrive when faced with customer and product-focused challenges, and care as much about building great products as you do writing great code.
