What’s the role?

The Trust & Safety Content Engineering team is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to drive the team's technical design, implementation and collaboration as we work to keep Etsy a trusted and safe place for our members. This position requires running multiple complex projects, using strong communication skills to work with applied scientists and machine learning engineers. You will also partner with cross-functional stakeholders from different backgrounds and technical levels.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Engineering, Trust & Safety Content. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
 

For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What’s this team like at Etsy?

• The Content Moderation Experience team works on Etsy’s various platforms for suppressing content that should not appear on the site. We integrate with Search, Ads, Recommendations, and Marketing to ensure buyer experiences aren’t diminished by unexpected and violative content.

• We build and maintain tooling that connects content detection to reviewing tooling, along with how we surface violation information to our members. Our needs are always evolving to match the changing landscape of content on Etsy, and we value collaboration immensely. 

• We work closely with other Trust & Safety partners in Product, Design, Engineering and Operations, and our ML partners to help execute our content moderation strategy.

• We value autonomy, understanding, and optimism in our work and strive to foster an environment where individuals are supported, respected, and empowered to take ownership and collaborate effectively.

What does the day-to-day look like?

• You will provide leadership and help set the direction for Etsy’s suite of policy violating detection systems, operating as a delivery leader for the Content Moderation Experience squad.

• You will collaborate cross-functionally to craft plans that achieve our business goals, while delivering new tools to match our evolving policy needs.

• You will enable your engineers' career journeys through close communication and coaching.

• You are highly collaborative, and enjoy working with other squads that are part of your organization, aiming to shape strategy and make decisions for your seller pricing tools work-stream.

• You are a skilled communicator and leader who is able to adapt your style and level of detail to effectively deliver messages upwards, downwards, and broadly around the company.
