What's the Role?
Etsy is looking for a software engineer to join the Etsy Service team! This team’s primary responsibility is to build features and tooling which support buyers and sellers when they need help with an order or help with their shop. This involves multi-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, data analysts, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality experiences across multiple channels, including Zendesk, support chat, and order help requests.
As a Software Engineer II on our team, you will be responsible for:
- Building and maintaining software written in PHP and React/Typescript
- Close attention to detail, with the ability to translate design and product requirements to production-ready code
- Work closely with third-party APIs, such as Zendesk, to provide stellar support to our buyers
- Strong communication that adapts to technical and non-technical audiences
- Consistently and proactively breaking down large features into multiple stages for delivery
- Identifying and resolving difficult architectural and technical trade-offs
- Collaborate with teammates across various subject areas, including engineering, product management, product design, and data analytics
This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager of the team. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What’s this team like at Etsy?
The Etsy Service team is a team of software engineers spread across the US and Mexico. The team is committed to building, optimizing, and maintaining the systems which support our sellers and buyers. The team works closely with product managers, designers, data analysts, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality experiences across multiple channels, including Zendesk, the help center, and order help requests.
What does the day-to-day look like?
- Frequently collaborate with teammates based out of various locations across the US, Mexico, and Dublin
- Build and maintain software written in PHP and React/Typescript
- Work closely with third-party APIs, such as Zendesk, to provide stellar support to our buyers
- Consistently and proactively break down large features into multiple stages for delivery
- Identify and resolve difficult architectural and technical trade-offs
- Collaborate with teammates across various subject areas, including engineering, product management, product design, and data analytics
- Balance immediate feature delivery with long-term technology improvements
- Use data to help scope, define, and measure your work
- Foster an inclusive team environment by seeking and offering feedback on work and highlighting others' accomplishments

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
- Proficiency with one or more programming languages (PHP, Python, Go, Ruby or other equivalent languages)
- Experience working with full-stack frameworks and technologies such as Ruby on Rails, Django, Laravel, or equivalent
- Experience working with third party APIs
- The ability to communicate frequently in an inclusive, thoughtful and kind manner
- Prior experience in either implementing or actively using metrics, logging and tracing systems
- A track record of consistent delivery and a “can do” attitude!
