What’s the role?

We are looking for a Product Oriented Engineering Manager to join our Search Experience organization to lead the Search iOS App team (Buy on Etsy). You’ll lead a team of iOS and API Engineers who build industry leading solutions to help our buyers discover items from Etsy’s unique and diverse inventory for their personalized shopping missions. You’ll work cross functionally with Product, Design and Analytics solving real user problems.

Here’s a sample of some of the problems we’re solving:

• How can we help someone find that perfect item, even when they might not know the exact words to describe it?

• How can we understand a buyer's motives and interests to personalize their experience?

• How can we guide someone to explore the breadth of Etsy's inventory without overwhelming them?

This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Engineering, Search Experience. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. 

For this role, we are considering candidates based in Mexico. You will have the option to work office-based, flex or remotely. Candidates living within commutable distance of Mexico City, or within the Guadalajara area, may be the first to be considered.

What’s this team like at Etsy?

The Search iOS App team within Search Experience aims to provide shoppers the best search experience to find the perfect item for them. The team is passionate about the work of improving the marketplace building an immersive search experience.

What does the day-to-day look like?

• You’ll lead a Search squad of iOS and API Engineers partnering cross functionally with Product, Design and Analytics

• You will serve as a coach, mentor and technical advisor to the team.

• You will define and execute your team’s long-term technical strategy in collaboration with Product Management and the Teams Engineering Tech Lead.

• You will cultivate a culture of learning, teamwork and continuous delivery.

• You will build a strong peer network with other managers at Etsy to increase your interpersonal context and support the professional growth and projects of your team.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• You are product oriented and strive to understand your customers and keep them at the center of the solutions you build.

• You have experience with Native Application Development (Objective-C, Swift and SwiftUI) and have delivered Apps at scale.

• You have a passion for building data related products and understand good systems design.

• You are an experienced leader who brings both technical acuity and leadership skills to build a successful team.

• You promote growth and learning on the team.

• You enjoy thinking about the implications of your work on end users. You are comfortable collaborating with Product Managers, Data Analysts, and Designers to ensure that you’re delivering impactful product features.

• You have led teams delivering projects on large scale consumer apps

• BS/MS or equivalent in computer science, applied math, engineering or a related field.

• At least 1 year managing a native apps engineering team.
