We are looking for an Senior Backend API Engineer II, Release Engineering, to join a multidisciplinary app development team, where you will work alongside native engineers to bring exciting features for our app users. You will  have the opportunity to contribute directly to Etsy’s goals and growth alongside mobile engineers and partners.

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Build solutions that support our App Engineers ability to ship safely and efficiently to our nearly 100M buyers.

• Work with Product Engineering, Enablement Engineering, and Design Systems teams to shape what is possible on our platform to surprise, delight, and engage our users.

• Assist with technical discovery and communicate findings and recommendations to your team members.

• Gather quantitative and qualitative data on App engineers pain points and deliver solutions that improve their developer experience.

• Diagnosing and resolving issues with infrastructure and pipeline failures, debug issues across provisioning configurations and environments.

• In collaboration with your team, craft and improve processes that impact app development across Etsy.

• Prototype, optimize and deploy new features and technologies to evaluate their feasibility for platform-wide adoption.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• At least 2 years of professional API development experience, ideally in a product-minded environment.

• Proficiency in either Typescript or PHP, with a deep understanding of interface, generics and strongly typed APIs.

• Being comfortable designing and developing RESTful APIs, with awareness of common API vulnerabilities and how to mitigate them.

• Strong diagnostic skills, you are able to identify, isolate, and resolve issues in APIs using logs and debugging tools, for issues spanning multiple systems.

• Product engineering mindset. The work you’ll do here will enable your stakeholders to understand the efficacy and effectiveness of their work that goes out to millions of users.

• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional team members, such as Product Managers, Designers, QA, and product engineers.

• Have a “leave it better than you found it” mentality, and are willing to work and improve on code you did not originally write.

• You can communicate with your team in a transparent and effective way.

• Are comfortable with saying “I don’t know”, doing research, and returning with options complete with trade offs..
