Keeping the Connection Human

At Etsy, we use technology to empower people and build community. That same philosophy guides how we use AI in our hiring process. Our goal is to make your candidate journey smoother, while keeping real human connection at the heart of every decision.

Candidate Guidance: Bringing your Authentic Self to the Process

At Etsy, we’re all about keeping things human. While we’re excited about the possibilities of AI, we believe it’s most powerful when it amplifies, and not replaces your original thinking. Here’s how to navigate your journey with us.

① Application

AI can be a helpful resource for drafting resumes and cover letters. While its use is permitted as a tool, you are expected to ensure the final materials truthfully and genuinely represent your unique skills and real world experiences.

② Live Interviews

Our interview process is designed to be a conversation. We typically use two types of video-based chats to get to know you:

  1. Candidate Screens are conversations designed to help you learn more about Etsy and the role you applied for, while also covering preliminary questions to determine if you should proceed to a behavioral interview.
  2. Behavioral interviews allow us to understand your skills, experiences, and methods for problem-solving and teamwork.

To keep these moments authentic, we ask that you stay fully present and share your stories in your own words. Because we value your original thinking, we ask that you avoid using AI tools during live interviews - we’re here to get to know the real you!

③ Assignments

For certain roles, we conduct non-technical assignments to evaluate your process and skills. You are expected to submit work that reflects your own thinking, conclusions, and perspective.

Your hiring team may schedule a meeting to review your completed assignment. During this session, they will be interested in understanding your approach, the tools and resources you utilized (including any AI tools), and your thought process throughout the assignment.

④ Coding & Technical Assessments

Our virtual-live coding and technical assessments are designed to reflect the type of work you would be doing in the role and to give us insight into your problem-solving approach and technical thinking in real-time.
