$161,000.00 - $209,000.00
What’s the role?
Etsy is seeking a dynamic Manager, FinOps to oversee a small team (3-5 people) while actively contributing to the team’s success as an Individual Contributor (IC). This high-visibility role is a unique blend of leadership and hands-on execution, designed for someone who thrives on managing strategy while rolling up their sleeves to tackle challenges directly. The ideal candidate will have a passion for technology, cost optimization, vendor management, and change management, along with the ability to bridge gaps and fill needs across multiple areas.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Director, FinOps. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. The FinOps team manages technology vendors, oversees cost forecasting and reporting, and partners with cross-functional teams to optimize Etsy's technology investments.
This team is critical for driving transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the Cloud and SaaS spaces while enabling innovation and scaling FinOps to new heights.
What does the day-to-day look like?
Leadership & Team Development:
Lead and mentor a team of 3-5 FinOps professionals, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment.
Act as a role model by balancing leadership with IC responsibilities, driving the team’s success through strategic guidance and hands-on contributions.
Identify and fill gaps across the FinOps function, ensuring no area is underserved.
Vendor Management:
Oversee day-to-day and strategic relationships with technology vendors, including cloud providers, SaaS vendors, and observability tools.
Negotiate contracts to align with Etsy’s cost, operational, and strategic goals.
Step in to manage complex vendor relationships or negotiations when needed.
Cost Management & Optimization:
Own forecasting, planning, and optimization for all technology vendor spend.
Develop cost allocation models tailored to team usage, infrastructure, and enablement requirements.
Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities, such as rightsizing, utilization improvements, and infrastructure modernization.
Take the lead on strategic cost optimization initiatives or when gaps in expertise arise.
Reporting & Insights:
Build and maintain comprehensive financial and operational reports for cross-functional teams.
Deliver actionable insights into team and use-case-specific costs (e.g., infrastructure, product usage).
Establish and oversee show-back models to enhance cost accountability, stepping in to refine processes or address challenges.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with Engineering, Product, and Finance teams to align cloud spending with business objectives.
Influence without authority to drive adoption of FinOps practices and foster a culture of cost awareness across teams.
Serve as a key point of contact for technology cost-related inquiries, while proactively stepping in to drive critical cross-functional initiatives.
Strategic Initiatives:
Lead the evolution of FinOps at Etsy, including decentralizing processes, leveraging automation (e.g., Bots, Generative AI), and embedding cost accountability into the organization.
Facilitate build vs. buy decisions to support strategic initiatives and ensure cost-effectiveness.
Analyze and interpret complex technical architectural diagrams to understand dependencies and relationships within Etsy’s engineering stack, providing guidance to optimize costs and improve efficiency.
Proactively identify and lead new initiatives to stay ahead of industry trends and shape Etsy’s cloud and SaaS strategies.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Finance, or a related field; equivalent work experience considered. MBA preferred.
7+ years of experience in FinOps, cloud cost management, or technology vendor management.
Proven track record of managing large-scale cloud and SaaS expenditures.
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to create and communicate complex financial models and reports.
Expertise in tools such as AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, or GCP Cost Management.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
Demonstrated experience in leading small, agile teams while balancing IC responsibilities.
Familiarity with FinOps principles and best practices.
Ability to interpret and analyze complex technical architectural diagrams, identifying dependencies and relationships in modern engineering stacks.
